Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a news article about the health and longevity rankings of Americans. The U.S. ranks 26th on health and 46th on longevity when compared to other industrialized nations. In the article the director of the CDC Dr. Julie Gerberding is quoted as saying that the medical system needs to become more proactive and not reactive. Also that more emphasis needs to be put on nutrition and that Americans need to be the front line in their own health. Both of these are things Dr. Wallach has been telling people for over 40 years.
Pearls of Wisdom
Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a story in Reader's Digest where several doctors mostly anonymously tell things they would want their patients to know. Such as having a nurse page the doctor when they are with a patient that asks too many questions. This way the doctor can rush out of the room claiming there is an emergency. Also that 46% of doctors would turn a blind eye to turning in another doctor who is impaired or incompetent.
